Crazy K'nex Capers . . . An Exciting Primary Activity

 

This activity is designed as a teamwork problem solving exercise where students are given a design brief of form and function. There is a selection of tasks to choose from, so a progressive programme could be planned. Working in pairs, pupils create their own solutions for the set task. 

 

Using K’nex construction kits, pupils exercise their imagination and creativity with 3D structures. In order to build a successful model they will need to show an appreciation of forces and movement along with any underlying mathematical concepts.

Main Curriculum links:
  • Science: Forces, Materials, Testing and Scientific Enquiry
  • DT: Design, Moving Mechanisms, structures and use of construction kits. Literacy: Speaking and Listening, following instruction
  • PHSE: Teamwork.
  • Maths: Shape and Proportions
Organisation:
  • The activity takes approximately 2½ hours    Staffordshire STEM Presents Crazy K'Nex Certificates
  • Worktables or classroom is required.
  • Ideal group sizes of about 30 pupils so two classes could be incorporated in a single day.
