Calling Captains of Industry

Welcome and thank you for showing an interest in the education of young people 

The young people of today are tomorrow's Captains of Industry. And as such, the link between Education and Industry is vital in ensuring the continual supply of a skilled and knowledgeable workforce. 

A recent report by the CBI confers:

“The UK’s schools, working with business as a committed stakeholder and partner, must evolve and adapt alongside a world of work increasingly characterised by change, greater competition and flexibility, equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed”. CBI 'Fulfilling potential', September 2010 

Staffordshire STEM Centre recognises the value of working with industry and looks to establish a wide net of industry contacts to help develop learning support materials and activities to meet the requirements of the Educational Curriculum. 

The resources we produce benefit schools specifically in the Staffordshire region and beyond.

Educational Visits and Case Studies

Educational visits as well as case study materials provide young people with a window of opportunity to expand their minds and experience the wonderful world of work. We would like to hear from you if you are able to offer educational visits to your site. Case studies are always in demand, and we can work with you to produce material to your specification.

We're looking for Mentors and Ambassadors! 
 

Engineering Education Scheme England (EESE)

The engineering education scheme is a problem solving  design and development project completed with the support of mentors from industry. A team of Yr 13 Students are set a real engineering problem within a business activity that requires a solution. Businesses contribute with one or more link engineers to support students during company visits and have regular contact throughout the duration of the project. 

GOOD NEWS! The quality of the projects produced in recent years has been exceptional with some leading to the development of commercially viable products and changes in work practices.

MORE GOOD NEWS!  These projects have inspired many students to go on to study for an Engineering Degree.  

STEM Ambassadors  

Did you know that there are over 360 STEM Ambassadors supporting schools in Staffordshire? Demand from Schools has meant that we need more Ambassadors on board!  As managers of the STEM Ambassador programme for the Staffordshire region, we can bring a degree of assurance to companies when they work directly with schools and colleges.

Staffordshire STEM Centre provides:

• Criminal records bureau disclosure at no cost to employees or the company
• Training on child protection issues and working with schools
• Free public liability insurance as well as personal items and travel insurance
• A point of contact for information and details of activities that are on offer
