By Design Group Education Newsletter – January 2012

The year is over 8% finished already! Time does fly by, and we’re getting ever closer to National Science and Engineering Week, which is taking place from 9th-18th March.  Within that week there’ll be The Big Bang at the NEC and iRail in Derby, as well as the teams going out and providing more schools with engaging STEM activities.

In this newsletter we’ll be looking at trains, trips and tennis, with three Big Bangs on the way. We are delighted to have you as friends, clients and partners and we sincerely hope that you will stay with us on our continuing journey.

Did you know: 16% of daily searches on Google have never been seen before, according to Google’s Internal Stats.

Science Week 2012

March is one of our favourite times of year, and with Science Week and The Big Bang it’s a great time to look at our range of STEM-related workshops. Whether it’s the physics, chemistry or biology of sport, or our new and improved Engineering Challenge, we’ve got a workshop to suit your syllabus and students.

London 2012 may now be fewer than 200 days away, but there is still plenty of time to book our fabulous Enterprise day based around the Olympics and big sporting events. We’ve got special rates for science week, so if you’re in need of a fun and engaging programme, get in touch.

In the middle of Science Week is our annual iRail event, to be held on 15th March at The Roundhouse, Derby. Groups from twelve schools across the East Midlands will be pitting their engineering and entrepreneurial skills against challenges set down by the rail industry. The day will be rounded off with a keynote speech from the Chief Engineer behind HS2, Prof. Andrew McNaughton.

News from the road

We’ve started the year off with quite a bang – Sara, James and Robbie have been up and own the country working with some of the teenagers in danger of leaving school without qualifications. The Department of Education ‘Zero Exclusion’ pilot programme with Skillforce is turning out to be a challenging series of workshops, but the team has stepped up to the plate marvellously and are finding the experience extremely rewarding.

We’ve also been enjoying a tremendous amount of success with the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust/General Electric Aspiring Minds days, where a world-class athlete comes to a school to inspire the students to grasp life with both hands. More details on that and how to book it for your school can be found on our website.
