Rocket Vehicles . . . An Exciting Primary Activity

 

A fun way to learn!
 

Using a variety of materials children, work in pairs, to construct  a simple vehicle that is propelled by air contained in balloons. The vehicles are then tested and compared. Pupils explore how making certain changes can improve the efficiency of the vehicle.
 
Key Stage Focus: KS1
 
Main Curriculum links:  Staffordshire STEM Activity - Rocket Vehicle
  • Science: Forces, materials
  • DT: Structures
  • Literacy: Speaking and Listening, following instruction
  • PHSE: Teamwork.
  • Maths: Measures, shape

Organisation:

  • The activity takes approximately 2½ hours
  • Worktables or classroom is required and an area for testing the vehicles.
  • Ideal group sizes of about 30 pupils so two classes could be incorporated in a single day.
  • All models are left with the children.
