Staffordshire STEM Centre offers an evolving portfolio of curriculum-focussed activities designed to meet the needs of modern education.

Staffordshire STEM Secondary Activity

We aim to add maximum value to STEM teaching and learning in order to facilitate Transition from Primary to Secondary Schools and from Further Education to Higher Education. Our team has the expertise and time to develop resources and plan activities that support the learner experience. Wherever possible we use contexts from real life activities and case studies from industry.

Delivery

Most of our specially designed programmes are delivered within a specific time frame by a member of our team. For some projects, we provide the resources and support necessary for effective teacher delivery. Some activities are flexible enough to give teachers a choice of delivery.

Activities Delivered by Staffordshire STEM Centre

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY	Full day practical activities on Wind, Solar Power, Peltier Cells, etc. These involve designing, building and testing solar vehicles, wind generators, etc. Our wind tunnel can be used to test developing designs.
BUILDING STRUCTURES	Hands-on activities based on rolled paper tubes connected together using nuts and bolts. Full day or half day.
COMPUTER CONTROL	Themed full day or half day activity on topics such as Bio-mechanics, Mars Rover Vehicles, Controlled Environments, Programmable Circuits, and LEGO NXT including FIRST LEGO League Competition.
GENDER IMPACT DAYS	Addressing stereotypes and misconceptions, and raising awareness of career opportunities. These are delivered through a small series of practical workshops and interactive demonstrations.
POLYMERS AND PLASTICS	Practical half day workshop involving plastic injection moulding, memory forming and laminating.
MATHEMATICS	Practical activity Half Day workshop based on compressed air rockets and/ or rocket cars
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY	Activities linked to a dedicated Medical Technology website
METROLOGY	The Science of Measurement. Practical half day activities linked to context from industry.
SMART AND MODERN MATERIALS	A Half Day practical workshop.
